In some cases, ties are broken by having each team bat for a one-over innings known as a Super Over; subsequent Super Overs may be played if the primary Super Over ends in a tie. If this kind of match is briefly interrupted by unhealthy climate, then a fancy mathematical method, known as the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern methodology after its developers, is often used to recalculate a brand new target rating. A one-day match can be declared a "no-result" if fewer than a beforehand agreed number of overs have been bowled by either team, in circumstances that make regular resumption of play inconceivable; for example, moist climate. The game underwent main development in the 18th century to become England's national sport. Its success was underwritten by the dual requirements of patronage and betting.
